Two-storey residential building collapses, killing 3 in southern China
A two-storey residential building collapsed, killing three people in southern China.
CCTV footage filmed in Zhuhai City in Guangdong Province on August 6, shows a massive explosion-like sound followed by the building crumbling instantly, engulfing the area in thick smoke.
Nearby shopkeepers and residents reported hearing the deafening noise, initially mistaking it for an earthquake.
In the wake of the accident, the Doumen District Emergency Management Bureau promptly activated an emergency response plan. Emergency services, police, firefighters, and health departments were swiftly dispatched to the scene for a rescue operation.
By 5:50 a.m. on 7 August, all trapped individuals had been successfully rescued. Tragically, three of the victims succumbed to their injuries despite intensive medical efforts, while one person sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving further treatment in the hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the collapse was caused by a gas explosion. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the incident. Relevant departments have committed to uncovering the truth and handling the situation in accordance with the law.
