TikToker 'ruby.nisha' shared a heartwarming video of her encounter with a young hedgehog wandering aimlessly across the road during a midday walk. Concerned for its safety, she captured it in a box but feared she might have done the wrong thing.

After calling an animal sanctuary and a vet, she was reassured that her actions were right. The sanctuary explained that young hedgehogs can become breeding grounds for flies, which can be deadly. The hedgehog is now safe and being treated for fleas, thanks to her quick thinking.

Whilst out for a walk in the middle of a day I stumble across a young hedgehog walking aimlessly across the road. Although I follow him for a while I notice he seems lost and disoriented. I decide to capture him in a box and take him some place safe but I am scared I've done the wrong thing. I decide to call an animal sanctuary and they advise I call a vet in case the hedgehog needs to be treated for flystrike. However, the vets suggest I call a different animal sanctuary - one that takes hedgehogs. I speak to someone on the phone who tells me I've done the right thing rescuing the hedgehog as they can end up being a breeding ground for flies who eat young hedgehogs alive. The rescue centre takes him and as far as I know it's doing well now. They're treating him for fleas.
