A hero resident swam into raging fire to save a stranded pet dog.

The fisherman was fleeing the burning coastal village on a boat with a neighbour when they passed by the crying pooch in Mandaue City, the Philippines on March 12.

Footage shows the kind local swimming towards the scared dog clinging near the burning coastline. He untangled its leash and guided it with him to the sea to safety.

The resident and the pooch then boarded the boat waiting for them nearby.

Volunteer rescuer Harold Yurong who was stationed at the bridge above said: ‘It was such a touching moment. We couldn't climb down to help the dog because of our duties on the bridge but he helped us.'

Officials said that more than 400 people lost their homes in the massive fire that broke out under Omen bridge that day.

It spread to two villages although no one was reported hurt nor injured from the blaze. Fire crews took several hours to extinguish the blaze,
