Int'l experts criticize US for doping and interference with Chinese athletes

International experts voice concerns over the U.S. interfering with Chinese swimmers on doping during the Paris Olympics, allegedly to create an advantage for American competitors.
Dr Slobodan Popović, research fellow of Serbian Institute of International Politics and Economics, highlighted the U.S. disruptive tactics used against Chinese athletes.
"By conducting tests on Chinese athletes and interfering with their preparations for the Olympics, the U.S. created conditions that favor their own athletes to win medals. The achievements of China are so unacceptable in the eyes of the U.S. that they continuously questioned and suppressed [Chinese athletes.] Looking back at the behavior of the U.S. during the Olympics, the endless demands for testing Chinese swimmers have objectively deepened the divide between the East and the West," said Popović.
During the Paris Olympics, both the U.S. and China have won 40 gold medals, which Spanish scholar Marcelo Munoz believes troubles the U.S. side, leading to their deceptive tactics at the games.
"At the Olympics, the U.S. has shown a lot of anxiety because, in terms of the gold medal count, China has reached parity with the U.S. This is unacceptable for them. So what do they do? They lie, which has been their usual tactic for many years - to constantly deceive the world with lies," said Marcelo Munoz, president emeritus of Catedra China, an independent non-profit association that helps Spanish entities to promote collaboration with China.
At this year's Olympics, American sprinter Erriyon Knighton was allowed to compete after he got tested positive for the banned steroid trenbolone during an out-of-competition test on March 26. The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) opted not to impose a suspension, attributing the positive result to contaminated meat.
Munoz accused the U.S. of long using doping while imposing "long-arm jurisdiction" over other countries using domestic judicial and political means, which have sparked a sense of crisis within the international sports community.
"There is evidence that the U.S. delegation has been using doping for many years, not just in this Olympics. Such attitudes and actions from the U.S. damage international sports and undermine the Olympic spirit. It also reveals the hypocrisy of the U.S. Why don't they hold themselves to the same standard they impose on others," he said.
