Quick-thinking Chinese driver reverses to dodge runaway truck on steep slope
A quick-thinking driver narrowly avoided a potentially fatal collision when a truck lost control while descending a slope in southern China.
The video was filmed in Shaoyang City in Hunan Province on August 7.
Mr Kuang, the driver of a car, swiftly reacted by reversing at high speed, successfully averting disaster and ensuring the safety of himself and his family.
As Kuang was driving with his family, he noticed a truck ahead behaving erratically while descending a slope, possibly due to brake failure. Realising the imminent danger, Kuang instantly decided to reverse his vehicle.
"I initially thought the truck was overtaking on a curve, but I quickly noticed something was wrong with its movement," Kuang recounted. "I realised that a head-on collision with the out-of-control truck would be catastrophic, so I immediately decided to reverse to avoid it."
Maintaining his composure, Kuang skilfully manoeuvred his car backwards, managing to avoid what could have been a serious accident.
Reflecting on the incident, Kuang emphasised that his calm judgement and rapid response were crucial in preventing the collision. He also urged fellow drivers to stay vigilant on the road, constantly observing their surroundings and other vehicles to ensure they can react quickly in an emergency.
