Angler rescues and releases babies after accidentally catching pregnant shark
A woman in Clam Gulch, Alaska, managed to remove and release several baby sharks after accidentally reeling in a pregnant shark.
TikTok user @garlanderb posted the footage her squeezing the babies from the pregnant shark before releasing them into the sea.
She explained that she accidentally caught the mother shark and it swallowed the hook causing it to die.
"I was originally trying to catch halibut. I was going to filet it to eat it later because nothing I kill goes to waste, but a baby shark came out so I got the rest of them out and then put them back into the ocean hoping to save them," the filmer told Newsflare.
She added: "We actually caught like eight other sharks and released all of them, this was the only one that swallowed the hook and unfortunately didn't make it.
Talking about the attempted rescue, the filmer said: "It probably didn't work but I tried. It was in rural Alaska, very far away from any cities or marine sanctuaries or anything."
Whilst users on TikTok were unsure if this action would save the shark pups, they were quick to praise the filmer's efforts.
"I feel like a lil' research before this would've helped but at least you tried to save them," one user said.
Another commented: "You gave them more of a fighting chance than nature already had, good job!"
