Storyline:
Local residents of the Shujayea neighborhood of Gaza City are living under dire conditions marked by scarcity of essential supplies such as water and electricity, as continuous Israeli strikes have destroyed up to 90 percent of the buildings in the neighborhoods.

Issam, a local resident, lives with his family of nine in a house that appears abandoned at first glance. Despite the destruction, they have chosen to stay.

With the outer walls severely damaged, Issam had to use fabrics as patches to cover the walls to put a roof over the heads of his families. Without access to water or electricity, they had to scavenge for wood or paper through piles of debris for cooking and heating.

Mohammed, another local resident, works tirelessly to repair his home using scraps of metal and nails salvaged from the wreckage.

In this June, he and his family watched as Israeli forces set their home ablaze. Despite daily threats urging them to move to so-called "humanitarian zones," Mohammed refused to leave.

The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have risen to 40,786, the Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Monday.

Over the past 24 hours, the Israeli army killed 48 people and wounded 70 others, bringing the total death toll to 40,786 and the injuries to 94,224, since the latest round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out on Oct 7, 2023, it said.

"As you can see from the outside, most of the house has collapsed and the roofs have been destroyed. We have managed to restore a place to live but we are still suffering. It's very cramped without drinking water or domestic water. There is no wood for fire, the place is infested with mosquitoes, and the smell of the garbage and sewage is very strong."
