Hill tribe families show off wooden swings in remote northern Thailand
Hill tribe families held a swing-riding festival in a remote border village in northern Thailand.
Members of the Akha ethnic group showcased beautiful wooden swings and held musical street performances at Pha Hi Village in Chiang Rai province from August 29 to September 1.
Footage shows villagers dressed in traditional costumes riding a ferris-wheel like swing.
Despite the rainy weather, tourists and villagers turned up outdoors to take part in the festivities.
Village headman Aran Pornjirapaisan said: 'The festival is held annually in August and September to honour the goddess of fertility and pray for a successful harvest.'
There were also games craftsmanship competitions and new contest in which participants showcased their craftsmanship.
The event drew many visitors to the mountain village, known for its coffee, tea, and local homestay cultural experiences.
