Nurse lost 14st after her weight left her "hobbling home" from 13hr shifts
A nurse lost 14st after her weight left her "hobbling home" from gruelling 13 hour shifts. "
Rosie Whitney, 30, struggled with binge eating and weighed 27st 12lbs and was a size 28 at her heaviest.
She was in placement as a student nurse when she realised she needed to make a change.
Rosie struggled with stay on her feet for the whole 13 hour shifts and would "hobble" home."
She needed her partner, Lewis, 28, an air duct cleaner, help her take her shoes off.
After years of yo-yo dieting, Rosie decided to fly to Turkey for a gastric bypass - costing £4,200.
Following the surgery Rosie lost most of the weight in a year and has now lost 14st 10lbs and is a happy and healthy 13st 3lbs and a size 12.
Now a newly qualified nurse, Rosie feels "proud" and can easily stay on her feet for the long shifts."
Rosie, from Grantham, Nottingham, said: "I was really struggling on my placement on my feet."
"It was 13 hours on my feet and I was hobbling home."
"I remember getting home and my boyfriend took my shoes off for me. I couldn't do anything."
"I was trying to be a role model when I'm not healthy myself."
"I wanted to help people - that was my goal."
"How can I help if I can't walk without getting out of breathe?"
"If I had to run for an emergency - how could I do that?"
"It was my nursing that put things into perspective."
Rosie slowly put on weight over the years from overeating.
She said: "I was greedy."
"I had eaten myself into oblivion."
Rosie wouldn't stick to meal times but would snack throughout the day and her shifts on unhealthy food such as takeaways, crisps and sausage rolls.
She had tried several diets over the years but would find herself piling back on any weight she lost and more .
Rosie became worried about her health as well as struggling to get through her shifts on placement in early 2022.
She said: "I was getting heart palpitations."
"I was worried about my health."
Rosie considered getting surgery but wanted to try losing the weight alone one more time.
She managed to lose four stone before she "failed" and started putting weight back on."
After lots of research she flew to the Mediterranean weight loss clinic, Mersin, Turkey
for surgery in August 2022.
Following the surgery, the weight dropped off Rosie within a year but she struggled to with body dysphoria.
She said: "Everyone was saying how amazing I looked but when I looked in the mirror"
I still thought I was really big.
"People didn't recognise me when I walked down the street who had known me for years."
But now Rosie feels "confident" in her body - despite being left with 7lbs of lose skin which she hopes to get removed in the future."
She said: "I'd rather have lose skin and be healthy."
"I'm happy the size I am now."
"I'm feeling healthy and getting more confidence."
She now easily stay on her feet for her nursing shifts and eats a balanced, healthy diet.
She still has her old size 28 scrubs.
Rosie said: "You can fit two of me in there."
"The other day I did a 13 hour shift and ran 5k at the gym after."
"I can be an inspiration for people."
"I'm so proud of myself. I feel like me again."
"I was a shell of myself back then. It ruined me."
