Repair shop uses hydraulic lifts to keep cars safe from flood water
Repair shop workers used hydraulic lifts to keep their customers' cars safe from a flood from Typhoon Yagi.
The establishment was hit by the rising deluge and spent the night securing the vehicles in their garage in Chiang Rai province, Thailand on September 12.
CCTV footage shows the mechanics on overtime with their families as they drove the SUVs and sedans inside the shop as the water slowly reached their entrance.
One by one, they drove the cars onto the lifts which then raised them up. When the knee-deep flood submerged the area, most of the vehicles were safe.
The Top Motor Oil and Service shop owner said: ‘ This was the first time I encountered such severe flooding, and I had to be mindful and quick-witted. My first thought was to move every car to higher ground, as there was no time to plan. I had to prioritise what to keep because all the tools were vital to my family and me.
'I'm relieved cars were safe as everyone values their own vehicle. Despite the extensive damage, which amounted to hundreds of thousands, possibly even a million, I still have dedicated employees, supportive customers and loyal allies ready to help. These things mean a lot to me.'
Northern Thailand was battered by continuous heavy rain last week due to Typhoon Yagi's influence.
Yagi, said to be Asia's most powerful storm this year killed at least 15 people in the Philippines before slamming into southern China and Vietnam. At least 290 people were killed in Vietnam, 220 in Myanmar and 10 in Thailand.
Thousands more were displaced by the torrential weather.
