A Rolls-Royce Cullinan burst into flames in the middle of a motorway in China as it drove down the road, heading towards the Beijing airport.

The incident caused a two-mile tailback for traffic attempting to reach the busy T2 airport terminal on September 14.

Photos from the scene show that the fire started while the vehicle was being driven. Eventually, firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze. By that time, however, the flames had almost completely gutted the SUV.

Currently, the domestically sold Cullinan is priced at around seven million CNY (748,101 GBP). The damage to the car from this fire incident is estimated to reach up to three million CNY (320,614 GBP).

Local media reported that the car owner had purchased full insurance, expected to cover 5 to 6 million CNY (534,358 - 641,229 GBP).

The cause of the fire in this car is still under investigation.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is a luxury SUV that combines the brand's signature elegance with off-road capability. Launched in 2018, it is named after the Cullinan diamond, the largest gem-quality diamond ever discovered.
