This is the dramatic moment an owner and his pet dog were saved from a sinking sailboat during Hurricane Helene.

The U.S. Coast Guard conducted the rescue mission for the man and his Golden Retriever when their watercraft capsized during the storm approximately 25 miles offshore (40 kilometres) in Lee County, Florida.

Footage shows one of the rescuers, Aviation Survival Technician Petty Officer 2nd Class Hudson, using a winch to lift the victims, who were wearing life vests, into the helicopter.

They were successfully hoisted to safety and flown to Southwest Florida International Airport, where they were met by emergency medical services (EMS). They are reported to be in good medical condition.

Authorities said that the sailboat remains adrift at sea.

Hurricane Helene killed more than 100 individuals and caused damage to roads and bridges, as well as severe flooding from Florida to Virginia.

Forecasters said that the estimated casualties range from 15 billion USD (approximately 11.25 billion GBP) to more than 100 billion USD (75 billion GBP), as electricity supplies, water systems, and communications were affected.
