Residents climbed to the roofs of their homes as flash floods returned to northern Thailand.

Video shows the deluge covering the streets of Wang Sa Phung district in Loei province on October 3.

Heavy rain battered the province early in the morning, spawning floods that reached up to seven feet.

Rescue efforts were hindered by the strong currents. The flooding reportedly subsided later in the day, but left a muddy mess in residents' homes.

Officials urged locals in low-lying areas to evacuate as more flooding was expected in the Mueang Loei district.

Heavy rains have been ravaging northern Thailand in recent weeks. The seasonal downpours have caused severe floods as rivers bordering Myanmar spilled over into communities.

While in September, Typhoon Yagi battered the country, killing 42 in northern Thailand and leaving thousands more displaced.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
