The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Friday launched airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut after IDF Spokesman Avichay Adraee issued two orders on social media, urging Lebanese to stay away from targeted facilities, according to local media reports.

As the Times of Israel reported, Israel launched 11 airstrikes on Hezbollah's facilities in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday.

It is reported that the strikes targeted Hashim Safi al-Din, head of Hezbollah's executive committee, who is believed to be the potential successor to Hassan Nasrallah, the late leader who was killed in recent Israeli airstrikes.

Also on Friday, Adraee issued a statement urging residents in over 30 villages and towns in southern Lebanon to head to north of the Awali River, warning that "anyone who is near Hezbollah elements, installations, and combat equipment is putting his life at risk."

The Israel Defense Forces have been carrying out an unprecedented, intensive air attack on Lebanon, dubbed "Arrows of the North", since Sept. 23, after nearly a year of low-intensity cross-border exchanges of fire with Hezbollah. And in another sign of escalation, the country has launched a ground incursion into Lebanon since early Tuesday.

The Israeli air and ground raids have since killed 1,974 people, including 127 children, wounded 9,350 others, and forced more than 1.2 million civilians to flee their homes, according to the Lebanese health minister.
