The escalating Israel-Hezbollah conflict has triggered the displacement of over 1.2 million people in Lebanon, leading to a humanitarian catastrophe, said Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs Hector Hajjar.

In a recent interview with the China Global Television Network (CGTN) in Beirut, Hajjar noted that the displaced population includes individuals not just from Lebanon, but also from other countries.

Hajjar said the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs has been tasked with addressing the crisis of displaced people, emphasizing the critical need to find shelters for them.

Amid the deteriorating humanitarian conditions, Hajjar called on the United Nations and the international community to offer more assistance to Lebanon.

The Israeli army has launched intensive attacks on Lebanon since late September in an escalation with Hezbollah, heightening concerns about a broader war as the conflict between Hamas and Israel continues in the Gaza Strip.

"Finding shelters is a big problem. Up to now, we can only accommodate 10% of the displaced. The rest of them went to villages, rented houses, or stayed with friends. We have 1,060 shelters, and most of them are schools. Schools are not well-equipped, and not good places to sleep. It is a catastrophe, and if the war is prolonged, it will be tougher.";
