The clocks at Newcastle train station are now operational again after 50 years.

Footage shows specialist teams restoring the iconic timepieces and installing modern LED backlighting on October 24. They spent three nights on the restoration project.

The 21,000 GBP revamp, funded by Network Rail and a Railway Heritage Trust grant, replaced the outdated clock components. Heritage clockmakers Smiths of Derby installed the new mechanisms 16 metres above the ground.

All three faces were synchronized to the correct time at 4:45 am on Thursday, and they began working together again.

The three clocks, originally installed in 1893, had suffered water damage to their timekeeping mechanisms, which caused each one to gradually lose accuracy before stopping completely.
