House collapses into river as 15 people die in Bali floods
A house collapsed into a river as severe flooding struck Bali, leaving at least 15 people dead and 10 others missing.
Terrifying footage shows a three-storey home crumbling along the banks of the Badung River in Denpasar on September 10, under a gloomy sky.
A cloud of dust and debris engulfed the area as floodwaters swept away the building.
Local media reported that at least three residents, a mother and her children, were missing following the incident.
Arjuna Rescue Advisor for the Bali Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Brama Budiyanto, said the water level in several areas had reached 5ft.
Brama added: 'As a result of the big flood, the three-storey house collapsed. During the incident, some residents even climbed onto their rooftops to escape the rising water.'
Resident Imam Sapi'i said the river had risen to the height of the nearby bridge. He added: 'Before the building on Hasanuddin Road crumpled, I heard a loud cracking sound. Then there was another, and after that, the entire building gave way.'
In another part of the island, a woman was swept away by strong currents after falling from her motorcycle while attempting to cross a flooded road with her husband in Jembrana Regency.
In nearby Negara City, a hotel was flooded, forcing guests to evacuate to safer ground.
Officials reported that heavy rainfall began on Tuesday morning, triggering floods and landslides in East Nusa Tenggara province and Bali.
The rain caused rivers to burst their banks, affecting nine cities and districts on the tourist island. Power outages were also reported, causing disruptions.
Authorities confirmed that 15 bodies were recovered, while 10 people remain missing. Thousands of homes, including tourist spots, were affected.
Indonesia's rainy season, which lasts from roughly September to March, regularly causes flooding and landslides across the country.
