A spooked bull ran into a road and knocked over an oncoming scooter rider in a freak accident in India.

CCTV footage shows the black bovine dashing into the middle of the street and clipping the motorcyclist in Tamil Nadu on October 22.

The impact caused the farm animal to be spun around while the college student riding the two-wheeler lost control and hurtled onto the side of the road.

The bull was unhurt and ran away from the scene with the other animals, while the youngster was injured and taken to a clinic for treatment.

Locals collected her bike for her but it had suffered minor damage with scratches along its side.

India has hundreds of thousands of cows roaming its streets.

It is party due to devout locals who follow Hindu customs, with cows regarded as sacred animals that cannot be eaten or slaughtered once they have stopped producing milk. The majority of states ban the sale or slaughter of cows.

Instead of dealing with the economic burden of keeping their spent cattle, many farmers let the beasts roam the streets - leading to chaos when the animals become agitated and turn their fury on humans.
