China: Chinese coastal cities issue warnings as Typhoon Trami moves west
Putian, China - October 24, 2024
The 20th typhoon this year Trami is expected to move westward at a speed of 20-25 kilometers per hour as of Friday morning according to meteorological department, and China’s coastal provinces Fujian and Hainan have issued warnings in advance.
Fujian Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow-alert gale warning at 16:50 on Thursday. Affected by cold front and Typhoon Trami, there are winds and waves in the coastal seas and fishing grounds of the eastern Chinese province. It is expected that there will still be gale force winds above Level 10 during the day on Friday.
China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
As of 19:00 Thursday, 45 passenger ferry routes and 94 passenger ferries have been suspended along the coast of Fujian; 71 water-related projects have been suspended, and 174 construction ships have been evacuated to safe waters.
The Hainan Provincial Marine Forecasting Center continued to issue a yellow-alert sea wave warning on Thursday morning. It is expected that under the influence of Typhoon Trami, large to huge waves will appear in the coastal waters east and south of Hainan Island. Vessels operating in the relevant waters have been warned to prepare for wave prevention and avoidance in advance.
At present, the operation of large, medium and small reservoirs in Hainan is relatively stable. Yet due to the influence of cold air, there is uncertainty about the amount of precipitation that Typhoon Trami will bring.
The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Bureau issued a blue-alert typhoon warning 15:30 Thursday, and the Hainan Provincial Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief Committee simultaneously launched a maritime typhoon emergency response.
