US: Mother of Three Defies 10% Survival Odds After Ruptured Brain Aneurysm
Cleveland, United States - October 04, 2024 Julianne Smith, a 38-year-old mother of three, is thankful to be alive after surviving a ruptured brain aneurysm with only a 10% survival rate. The harrowing incident, which occurred on October 4, left her in a coma for over a week, but through a combination of quick medical intervention and her own determination, she has made an inspiring recovery. It all began when Julianne collapsed in her kitchen, leaving her family in a panic. Her 10-year-old daughter called her father, Mike, who immediately feared she was suffering from a stroke. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, where doctors discovered a subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by the aneurysm. The medical team at Cleveland Clinic, led by neurosurgeon Dr. Nina Zobenica Moore, acted swiftly to drain fluid from her brain, perform an endovascular coiling procedure to stop the bleeding, and manage the swelling that threatened her life. A right hemicraniectomy, where part of her skull was removed to alleviate pressure, was performed, followed by successful treatment for severe vasospasm, a complication that could have led to a stroke. Despite the odds, Julianne’s recovery has been nothing short of remarkable. After weeks of rehabilitation, she went from being bedridden to walking again, regaining her ability to drive, and even returning to her volunteer work. “I’m back to doing the things I love,” Julianne said. “I’m able to drive my kids where they need to go. I can go to my daughter’s volleyball games. I’m so grateful I’m still here to witness it.” Her husband, Mike, credits Julianne’s unwavering determination for her recovery. “Once she puts her mind to something, she’s going to do it. I think that really helped her get better.” Julianne’s outlook on life has changed, and she’s cherishing every moment with her family. “I’m so grateful to even be here. I have a lot to live for,” she shared. “It’s easier to treat an aneurysm before it ruptures, so take care of your health and talk to your doctor.” Looking ahead, Julianne is excited to create new memories with her loved ones and is thankful to the medical professionals who saved her life. “From the first responders to the doctors and physical therapists, I’m so grateful to them all.”
