The city of Malibu reported on Wednesday that the Broad Fire had become a significant threat to properties across the region, forcing the closure of Malibu City Hall to the public and canceling all scheduled public meetings due to the emergency. The Senior Center, Community Center at Bluffs Park, swimming pool, and all parks were also shut down until further notice. The fire, which was initially reported around 9 a.m. near Malibu Canyon and Pacific Coast Highway, had stalled at 50 acres.
