Driver holds funeral for his beloved car instead of scrapping vehicle
A driver held a religious ceremony to bury his old car in India.
Footage shows the 12-year-old Suzuki Wagon R, decorated with flowers and garlands, being reversed into a pit in Amreli, Gujarat, on November 7.
The car's owner, farmer Sanjay Polara, credits the hatchback with bringing prosperity and good fortune to his family since its purchase in 2006.
Around 2,000 villagers were invited to attend the burial.
The invitation read: 'This car has been like a family member since 2006, and it brought us good fortunes. We gained prosperity, and our reputation in society was elevated. We want this car in our memory forever, and that's why we have planned a samadhi (burial) of this car.'
'I purchased this car in 2006. Ever since I bought it, the vehicle brought my family good luck and elevated our social prestige.
'I wanted to do something different, so I decided on a respectable adieu in the form of samadhi for the car.
The family planted trees around the memorial in its honour.
