In a historic achievement in eastern India's Odisha, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully tested the country's first long-range hypersonic missile.

The incident took place at Dr. Abdul Kalam Island, off the coast of Odisha on November 16.

Visuals showed the missile soaring into the sky under the supervision of scientists and officials.

According to reports, the test marked a significant milestone in India's defense capabilities, showcasing advanced technology and precision engineering. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh celebrated the success in a post on X, describing it as a "historic moment" and noting that the achievement places India among the few nations with such critical military technology. The missile is capable of carrying various payloads over distances exceeding 1,500 km, bolstering the Armed Forces' strategic edge.

The missile was indigenously developed at the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, Hyderabad, in collaboration with multiple DRDO laboratories and industry partners.
