Sofia, Bulgaria - November 20, 2024 Thousands of taxis protested in over 70 Bulgarian cities, dissatisfied with the increase in insurance prices. They complain that they are being made to pay 3 to 16 times more for providing this service. And they warned that this would make their service expensive and uncompetitive. They believe that insurers are taking advantage of political instability and the lack of a regular government. It is a blow to the industry to benefit another, the protesters say, and they have threatened to look for different options to save their business. Today they only stopped traffic on only one of the highways for a few hours. They threatened to block roads across the country. The insurance industry claims they haven't updated their prices with inflation for years. The protest seriously hampered traffic in Sofia, where they were the most numerous, but also in the other larger cities of the country.
