STORYLINE:
A Chinese-built bridge project across Mekong River in Cambodia started underwater work on Friday in the southeastern part of the capital Phnom Penh.
The 1.6-kilometer-long concrete bridge, along with a 2.1-kilometer-long connecting road, will be built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). The construction is expected to be completed in 48 months.
The bridge project links Kean Svay and Lvea Aem districts in Kandal province.
Locals expressed optimism about the benefits the bridge will bring, including improved travel efficiency and reduced costs.
