Skwentna, United States - November 26, 2024 In a remarkable act of holiday generosity, Alaskan pilot Esther Sanderlin has taken to the skies, delivering Thanksgiving turkeys to families living off the grid. For three years, Sanderlin has been air-dropping “turkey bombs” to neighbors in remote parts of Skwentna and the West Susitna Valley, ensuring they have a proper festive meal despite their isolation. The mission began after Sanderlin learned of a neighbor planning to share a single squirrel for Thanksgiving dinner. "I thought, ‘You know what, I’m going to airdrop them a turkey,’” she said, recalling how a similar gesture during her childhood inspired her to give back. This year, Sanderlin delivered 30 to 40 turkeys and aims to grow her efforts into a nonprofit to reach more families in remote Alaska. “There are so many families that live off the grid,” she noted.
