Meteor soars across night sky in Alaska
This is the stunning moment a meteor soars across the night sky in Alaska.
Stargazers witnessed the dazzling fireball in Ester, near Fairbanks, on December 1.
The breathtaking bolide streaked over the horizon at 1:56 am, its brilliance enhanced by the aurora borealis as its backdrop.
One observer said: 'Fireball! Well, that was cool.'
A meteor, sometimes called a shooting star or falling star, is a streak of light seen in the sky when a piece of rock or metal from space burns up as it enters Earth's atmosphere.
The majority of meteors entering Earth's atmosphere move at very high speeds, often exceeding 70 km/s. This rapid speed causes them to heat up and glow.
