The Kanlaon Volcano in the Philippines erupted, unleashing greyish plumes soaring 500 metres above the summit crater

Timelapse footage from the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory captures the active stratovolcano, which straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, releasing smoke during two separate events on Wednesday, December 4.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the volcanic activity occurred between 9:47 am and 10:27 am and again from 4:12 pm to 4:30 pm, with ash drifting west to southwest.

Authorities have maintained Alert Level 2 over Kanlaon, indicating moderate unrest.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant as volcanic activity continues, with the potential for sudden eruptions.

Mount Kanlaon is an active volcano that has erupted multiple times. Its most recent eruptions have been relatively mild but still pose a risk to nearby communities.
