Fire crews battle flames as fighter jet explodes and crashes in Malaysia
A fighter jet burst into flames as its engines exploded before crashing during take-off in Malaysia this evening.
The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet was seen roaring down the runway with flames trailing behind at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport in Kuantan.
Moments later, a bright fireball engulfed the plane as it came down. The two pilots onboard are said to have ejected.
Footage captured by residents shows the orange glow of the inferno lighting up the night sky as fire crews arrived to extinguish the flames devouring the wreckage.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force said: 'We would like to inform of an accident involving an F/A-18D Hornet at 9.05pm August 21. at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport in Kuantan.
