STORYLINE:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday discussed regional conflicts, bilateral ties, and mutual cooperation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Ankara, according to the Turkish presidency.
In their meeting, Erdogan emphasized the importance of strengthening relations between the two nations, which have surpassed a century, said a statement from his office.
He expressed his commitment to increasing mutual trade volume and deepening cooperation across various sectors, said his office.
The meeting also touched on the ongoing situation in Syria, with Erdogan highlighting Türkiye's humanitarian and principled foreign policy, said the statement.
The Turkish president stressed the need for cooperation from the European Union (EU) on counter-terrorism and reconstruction in Syria.
Orban, currently leading the rotating presidency of the European Union, has undertaken a self-declared peace initiative aimed at addressing the Russia-Ukraine conflict. His meeting with Erdogan followed a recent phone call with Russia's President Vladimir Putin.
Erdogan also met with Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok in Ankara on the same day.
