STORYLINE:
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met on Monday in Alamein, northern Egypt, to discuss recent regional issues and the risk of escalating conflicts, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.
Al-Sisi described the current situation in the Middle East as very delicate and dangerous, calling for "extreme caution" and "wise decision-making."
Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt's warnings about the danger of expanding the conflict, which threatens regional and international peace and security.
Both sides condemned "Israeli escalation policies" and emphasized the seriousness of the regional situation, the statement said, adding they also reaffirmed the necessity of advancing a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, based on a two-state solution, to achieve sustainable justice, security, and stability in the region.
Fidan confirmed the meeting on social media but did not provide specific details. His visit to Egypt, which started on Sunday at the invitation of Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, also included stops at al-Arish port, the Rafah border crossing, and the Egyptian Red Crescent Logistics Center.
