A stray cat amused tourists by sleeping in a picture-perfect position on a bronze memorial statue.

Footage shows the ginger feline slumped on the lap of a grieving woman's figure of the Memorare monument in the walled city of Intramuros in Manila, the Philippines, on December 13.

The moggy dozed off as onlookers gathered to take pictures of the animal, which merged in so well with the scene that i appeared to be one of the mother's lifeless children.

Visitor Vince Edren Miranda said: 'We stopped in the area to rest after hours of walking and saw the cat. They blended in so well with the statue, it was like the artist had designed it like that.'

The Memorare was sculpted by Filipino artist Peter de Guzman and features a hooded woman slumped on a marble base holding a dead child.

It serves as a remember of the World War II massacre inflicted by Imperial Japan on civilians during the city's liberation.
