Massive Fire Engulfs Former Virginia Intermont College Campus in Bristol

Firefighters battled a massive blaze early Friday morning at the former Virginia Intermont College campus in Bristol, Virginia. Heavy smoke and flames were reported just after midnight as the fire spread from one building to another.

Emergency crews worked tirelessly to contain the fire, though the cause remains unknown.

City Councilman Neal Osborne shared a video of the fire on Facebook, calling it a “tragedy for our city.” Osborne also criticized the property owners, saying the city's efforts to push them to maintain the site had “fallen on deaf ears.”

The incident marks yet another setback for the once-prestigious campus, now reduced to smoldering ruins.
