Monitor lizard saunters through busy park in Bangkok
A monitor lizard sauntered through a busy park in front of visitors in Thailand.
Footage shows the 4ft reptile taking its time to cross a concrete road, ignoring passersby at Lumphini Park in Bangkok on December 15.
It reached the pavement on the other side and sniffed on the drain for water and food.
The lizard attracted tourists and locals who stopped by to take pictures of the animal.
Onlooker Sasinun Lee said: 'There is a lake nearby so I think that was where it came from before we saw it.'
Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
