A wild monitor lizard scurried into a shop before it was chased out by workers.

The large 4ft-long reptile crossed from the other side of the street before raiding a small store in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 15.

CCTV footage shows the animal casually crawling into the place of business undetected while trying to look for food.

But the lizard was big enough to be noticed immediately when a customer walked in, and it was scared out by a shopkeeper with a stick.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
