Al Hudaydah, Yemen - December 21, 2024 The port authorities under the control of the Houthi armed forces said on Saturday that the ports attacked by the Israeli military have resumed operations. Israel launched airstrikes on multiple targets under the control of the Houthi armed group in Yemen on Thursday, damaging several ports along the coast of the Red Sea. A total of three ports in al-Hodeidah Governorate were affected by the airstrikes, which are the ports of Hodeidah, Saleef and Ras Isa. Hodeidah Port, in particular, is considered one of the most critical ports in northern Yemen, serving as a key gateway for food, fuel, and other essential supplies entering the country. At a press conference on Saturday, the port authorities under the control of the Houthi armed forces said that the airstrikes had destroyed several port tugboats used for guiding ships and some facilities, but the port is still operational. "The purpose of the airstrike by the [Israeli military] was to paralyze the port and halt its operations. However, despite the various challenges we are facing, the relevant authorities are still functioning effectively. We will find alternative solutions and provide measures to ensure that the port does not shut down," said Zaid Al-Washli, head of the Red Sea Ports Authority.
