This is the scary moment a bridge shook as drivers travelled during the Christmas getaway in the Philippines.

The concrete platform of the through-arch-type Biliran Bridge suddenly wobbled, prompting shocked motorists to flee and wait on either end in Leyte province on December 23.

Footage shows the ground swaying in wave-like movements while buses, cars, trucks, and motorcycles stalled. The steel bars overhead also moved.

Driver Alvs Kate said: 'We were almost in the middle of the bridge when the shaking began. We were so terrified.'

The Department of Public Works and Highways later prohibited heavy equipment vehicles from passing through after the unusual swinging.

The cause of the swinging is unclear, but the Biliran Bridge connecting Leyte and Biliran provinces was repaired three years ago in 2021.
