A shocked husband found a huge cobra sleeping behind his toilet.

Ekkachai Win, 28, was about to clean the bathroom when he discovered the deadly serpent lying on the tiles behind the toilet seat in Phatthalung, Thailand, on December 24.

He dropped his cleaning supplies and ran out of the bathroom to call the local snake wranglers for help.

Footage shows the wildlife officers pinning down the 7ft cobra before grabbing it barehanded. They took its measurements before bagging it inside a sack.

A rescue officer said: 'We have caught many cobras, but this one is the largest we've ever captured.'

Ekkachai said the snake may have slithered into the house through a hole he had drilled through the walls for drainage.

He added: 'There is a thick forest behind the house where the cobra likely came from. I normally block the holes in the wall using bricks, but I think I forgot this time. That's how the snake entered the bathroom.'

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.
