This is the transcript from the interview: This is preliminary Information at this time about an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Topanga Division. We're still at the very early stages of this investigation as detectives still have video and physical evidence to collect and analyze and witnesses and the officers involved to interview. But here's what we know so far. At around 10:15 p.m. Topanga Division officers responded to a man with a gun radio call at a motel in the 21700 block of Ventura Boulevard. When the officers arrived to the scene, they encountered the suspect who was armed with what they believed to be a weapon or a rifle and an officer-involved shooting occurred. (...) Immediately after that officer-involved shooting, the suspect fled from the officers and a perimeter was established. We requested SWAT and Metropolitan Division Canine, who conducted a search and ultimately found the suspect, who fled back into the motel.(...) Fire department paramedics were at scene to determine that the suspect was suffering from gunshot wounds and was deceased to your scene. This is an ongoing investigation. The area will be impacted for several hours.(...) The suspect weapon was located at scene and will be recovered and booked as evidence.(...) Is there only one victim here? (...) The suspect?(...) There's only one suspect, yes. And did the suspect shoot or did the officer shoot? You know, that's part of the ongoing investigation. We still have body-worn video to review and as well as any independent surveillance video
