Passengers celebrate as flights resume to Damascus following Bashar al-Assad ousting
Jubilant Syrians who had been away for years finally returned to their homeland following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad.
Footage shows passengers cheering onboard a Qatar Airways Airbus A330 that flew from Doha to Damascus on January 7.
The flag carrier's flight landed at Damascus International Airport on where passengers were greeted by relatives and friends.
Osama Musalama, who travelleld from the United States, told local media that it was his first visit since the civil war in 2011.
Air Transport Authority chief Ashad al-Suleibi said Qatar had begun providing assistance with rehabilitating the airport following years of neglect and damage from Israeli air strikes.
