Dramatic footage shows a massive pile-up involving nearly 100 cars on an icy, foggy motorway in Kazakhstan.

The video captures vehicles colliding at speed with stationary cars on the Astana-Petropavlovsk motorway on January 3, as bumpers are torn off and passengers swearing in shock.

Another clip reveals rows of crashed vehicles with damaged fronts and shattered windscreens amid blizzard-like conditions.

The Kazakh Ministry of Health reported that 20 people, including 11 children, were injured in the incident.

Traffic on the road was blocked following the crash, and the injured were taken to hospital for treatment, with local media describing their injuries as moderate.

Authorities attributed the massive pile-up to drivers failing to maintain a safe distance and adhere to speed limits despite the poor visibility caused by fog and icy conditions.

At least 24 vehicles involved in the accident were towed away, while 30 managed to leave the scene without assistance.
