This is the heartwarming moment firemen rescued a dolphin trapped in shallow water in Italy.

Two teams from the Lignano fire station helped release the stranded sea creature back into the ocean in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Province of Udine, on January 6.

Footage shows two of the rescuers carefully placing the dolphin on a floating stretcher after conducting medical checks.

Veterinarians confirmed that the animal sustained no injuries from being beached.

Following the examination, they released the dolphin, which then swam away safely.

The operation was a collaborative effort involving firefighters, veterinarians, and experts from WWF Area Marina Protetta di Miramare, the University of Padova's Department of Comparative Biomedicine and Nutrition, Associazione DelTA, the Shoreline Cooperative of Padriciano, and Slovenia's Morigenos Association.

Dolphins can become beached due to sickness, injury, navigational errors, environmental factors, rapidly changing water conditions, or human activities such as boat strikes or fishing net entanglement.
