Waves battered a funeral held by the sea in southern Thailand.

Dramatic footage shows a massive surge crashing the ceremony held in Village 2, Tambon Tha Phraya, Amphoe Pak Phanang, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, on January 12.

The coffin was temporarily placed in an elevated spot by struggling relatives to escape the rising seawater floods.

Local media reported that a high tide flooded the house and surrounding areas along the coast while the venue was being set up.

The water level started to rise at 6 am and continued until noon, forcing the family to relocate the funeral to a safer location, adding to their grief.

Reports said that the coast of the Gulf of Thailand is experiencing high tides and strong waves, reaching up to three meters high and continuously crashing into the shore.

The Southern Meteorological Center issued a warning for strong monsoon conditions over the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, forecasting heavy rain and high waves until January 13.

While southern Thailand is being battered by intense weather, the northern region is experiencing a cold spell, with a significant drop in temperatures following a decrease of around five degrees caused by a cold air mass from China.

Authorities forecast another wave of cold weather from China to cover the region again on Thursday, with light morning fog expected in the upper country.
