Thai villagers cowered in their homes as blasts were heard in neighbouring Myanmar, where citizens have just been banned from entering the United States.

Fighting flared near the border as Burmese troops attacked a guerrilla base in Myawaddy, Kayin State, on December 1.

Footage shows gunfire and flames from a forest opposite Tak province while residents were sleeping.

At least six bombs reportedly landed in Thailand, peppering houses with shrapnel.

The skirmishes raged throughout the night as forces in Myanmar - riven by civil war since 2021 - were repelled by heavy gunfire and artillery.

Bright fireballs soared into the sky when Thailand's Ratchamanu Task Force fired flares warning of the ongoing conflict.

Authorities said no residents were injured but the fighting has left locals spooked.

The incident came just days after a stray bullet hit a school in the area, disrupting a sports festival.

Myanmar has fallen into civil war following the removal of democratically elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, with a military coup in 2021.

Soldiers responded with barbaric force on protesting civilians, leading to widespread condemnation and financial sanctions. Rebel groups and civilian militias around the country have since been locked in a series of ongoing clashes with the ruling military.

Aung San Suu Kyi has since been jailed for 33 years on politically motivated charges and is likely to die behind bars unless the army is toppled - a tragic end the politician hailed by Barack Obama as an 'inspirational icon of democracy'.

US President Donald Trump this week announced a freeze on immigration applications from 19 countries.

The ban applies to citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen while the restricted access applied to people from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
