Residents prepared by stocking up on food and essentials as Storm Eowyn approached Ireland.

Footage shows empty shelves in a local supermarket in Dublin on January 23, with sliced bread and other basic supplies running low.

Ireland is preparing for what is expected to be one of its most severe storms, with a rare Status Red weather warning issued nationwide.

A provisional wind gust of 114 mph (183 km/h) recorded at Mace Head in County Galway is the strongest ever reported by the national weather agency, Met Eireann.

Approximately 560,000 homes and businesses are currently without power.

Authorities in both the United Kingdom and Ireland have closed schools and advised residents to stay indoors.
