A pair of men dropped their family's dinner while trying to cook with a giant wok.

Randal Medrano was helping his uncle Rodel Banaag transfer the large pan where chopped bamboo shoots were boiling when it tipped over in Batangas, the Philippines, on July 27.

Footage shows the two men using folded cardboard as makeshift oven mitts but toppled as they tried to lift the heavy cookware up.

More than half of the dish spilled out and the water doused the cookfire that had been burning for an hour.

Randal's cousin Melvin said: 'We gathered to cook some traditional food. We were making labong, which was seasonal.

'We boiled it for an hour to make it tender but accidentally spilt some.'

Melvin added they were able to salvage some of what was left in the wok and cooked that instead.

He said: 'We shared what remained in the pot. It was still a nice dinner.'
