On February 3rd in Shaoyang, Hunan Province, a hen, startled and jumping into water, instinctively tried to survive by swimming and even attempted to join a group of ducks.

According to the person who filmed the scene, the hen initially tried to mimic the ducks' swimming posture. However, due to differences in body structure, it couldn't keep up with them. Fortunately, the hen quickly adapted, inventing a unique "chicken paddle" swimming technique. After struggling in the water for nearly ten minutes, it successfully made it back to shore.

A chicken's body structure is not suited for swimming. Their feathers easily absorb water, increasing weight, and they lack the waterproof oil coating found in ducks. Additionally, their wings are inefficient for propelling through water. As a result, chickens can quickly become fatigued and lose body heat, which may be life-threatening if they remain in water too long.

If a chicken falls into water, it should be promptly rescued, rinsed with warm water, and kept warm to restore its body temperature. It's also important to clear its airways, monitor vital signs, and seek veterinary assistance if necessary.
