American tourist, 25, falls from 7th floor of shopping mall in Malaysia

An American tourist survived a fall from the 7th floor of a shopping mall in Malaysia.

The male visitor, 25, reportedly plunged reportedly climbed over the safety railings at the Gurney Plaza in Penang, at around 1:55 pm on February 5.

He suffered a head injury after crashing through a Chinese New Year display in the middle of the mall. Photos show how the fall had damaged part of prop house's roof and tore apart the wall panel.

Police said he was conscious while being rushed to the Penang Hospital at 2:20 pm.

Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad, northeastern district police chief, said: 'From what we gathered from family members, he was having problems with his lover. We have not spoken to him personally yet. He is here on holiday and was supposed to leave on Feb 12. He arrived on Feb 1.'

The tourist has since been moved out of the emergency ward. No criminal elements were involved, police said.
