Air Force Top Guns shot down a suspected narco jet flying over the Amazon Rainforest.

The unidentified jet had entered Brazilian airspace near the border with Venezuela on February 11. It was said to have ignored orders from authorities to divert its route, prompting them to fire at it.

Footage shows a column of thick smoke rising from the burning plane wreckage that crashed in dense woodland. The two men piloting the aircraft were found dead.

The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) said they exercised maximum restraint but were forced to brand the plane as 'hostile' after it ignored verification measures.

In a statement, the air force said: 'Since it did not comply with the coercive procedures described in Decree No. 5,144, the aircraft was classified as hostile and, therefore, subjected to the Detention Shot (TDE), which consists of firing shots with the purpose of preventing the continuation of the flight.

'This measure is used as a last resort, after the intercepted aircraft fails to comply with all established procedures and forces the continuation of the illicit flight.'

Cocaine production in Venezuela has increased in recent years, though the country is not traditionally a major producer like Colombia, Peru, or Bolivia.

However, Venezuela is a key transit hub for drug trafficking due to its porous borders, corruption, and lack of enforcement.
