A military aircraft crashed into a field injuring one person in central Vietnam.

The Su-22 plane plunged into the ground near a neighbourhood, jolting villagers when it landed and split in half near empty land in Dien Ban Town in Quang Nam province on January 9.

Colonel Doan The Son of the Ministry of National Defense Air Force Unit Division 372 said the pilot had pilot detected a problem with the aircraft during training at around 11:15 am.

The cadet flew the jet into a safe area before ejecting himself from the seat. No deaths were reported, while a resident working outdoors was slightly injured from the flying debris.

The crash had also torn down the roof of a family's home.

Firefighters and medics have been deployed at the scene. Authorities have cordoned off the crash site and advised locals to stay indoors.

Local media reported that the plane was produced in the late 1980s and 1990s, and was a relatively older model being used by the Vietnam People's Air Force.
